unblinding

the murder house sleep dictations:
an international collaboration between sound artists to create and record improvised music.

- each session is recorded by a different artist or collaboration between artists, according to their own design, without rehearsal.
- each recording takes place in a specific location, and uses the noise and densities of the location as acoustics for the improvisation.
- samples can be used if they are manipulated live and recorded on the fly (for example, as used by a scratch DJ, or in a laptop jam). copyright infringement is the responsibility of the artist.
- each session must be completed within a set number of hours.

each artist or group is asked to imagine that they are present in a space that resonates with the psychic nightmare of a traumatic murder. they are then to compose a soundscape that reflects and explores this idea.

next session will be by fidel cutstro, uk scratch DJ, and will mark the birth of the audio-visual dimension of this project (with an accompanying film by toby morgan and dan morley)

after publication of the murder house sleep dictations: atrocity sketchbook by toby morgan, unblinding will begin making short films for the murder house project, each one built entirely from the soundtracks of the collaborating artists.

graphic design/cover art/insert artwork for the project is by toby morgan. the films that accompany this project are produced by unblinding.
